On June 29th 1993, the Los Angeles Board of Education granted charter school status to four Palisades complex schools-Canyon Charter School, Marquez Charter School, Palisades Elementary Charter School and Palisades Charter High School

Charter school status, a recently legislated reform which gives schools freedom to implement new ideas as long as they produce results, has put the Palisades schools in the forefront of educational innovation.

Canyon Charter School

Founded in 1894 as a one-room schoolhouse on an historic land grant, Canyon Charter School is nestled in Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades. The original schoolhouse is now a library and museum, the centerpiece of a modern campus that includes a large grassy playing field and a "learning grove."

Marquez Charter School

Situated on 7 peaceful acres overlooking the Pacific, Marquez Charter School emphasizes a Strong academic program designed to maximize achievement, promote lifelong learning, and instill in children a sense of altruism. Their goal is to prepare their students to be successful citizens in the 21st century.

Palisades Elementary Charter School

Palisades Elementary Charter School rests on 4.5 acres in the heart of the Palisades. The school was built in 1924, and has been declared an historical monument. Its landmark bell tower presides over sweeping lawns and playgrounds, a library of over 15,000 volumes, and a well-maintained campus.

Palisades Elementary is committed to preparing its students for world citizenship through a rigorous academic curriculum. Its thrust is outward and inclusive-multicultural, multilingual, as strong in the humanities as it is in science and technology.

Paul Revere Middle School

(Paul Revere Middle School will participate in the charter school process through representation on the Charter School Coordinating Council, curriculum coordination and matriculation of students.)

Occupying 27 acres of beautiful level valley between Pacific Palisades and Brentwood, Paul Revere Middle School provides a progressive and supportive integrated learning environment for grades six to eight, the middle years of change and exploration.

Palisades Charter High School

Located on an expansive campus within walking distance of the ocean, Palisades Charter High School, a school within a school, will offer charter students a strong academic curriculum. The personalized program will focus on the needs and interests of each individual, preparing them for the challenges of university.
